A Food-First Approach for Tesco in Cheshunt
Tesco Extra in Cheshunt, was refurbished in 2024, to update the store layout to a new food-first concept, incorporating the latest trials to close the quality perception gap through blueprint and design.
The burgeoning concept meant design stages were continually evolving throughout the development, requiring close collaboration between Stace’s project management team and Tesco’s design team. The refurbishment included replacement of all store refrigeration and plant equipment to comply with the latest design standards and CO2 emission regulations.
The store also introduced another new concept, the Future Health initiative, to give customers easy and convenient access to healthcare services while they shop. A research programme will form part of this concept, hoping to transform the prevention, detection, and treatment of conditions such as dementia, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and stroke.
The development was delivered over a 20-week programme, largely undertaken at night or behind hoarded areas, to ensure the store could remain operational between 6am and 10pm.
