Alex is a motivated and enthusiastic building surveyor who has excellent skills in CAD and the development of specification and drawing packages for contract administration roles. He has undertaken measured surveys, condition surveys and has gained experience in a variety of roles and tasks within retail, residential and educational markets.

He is a competent contract administrator, having gained experience in and dealt with a number of construction projects. He has also recently gained experience in a number of monitoring surveying roles and dilapidations claims.

Mark Ashby

Mark is experienced in leading and managing property and construction projects and programmes of work, both in the UK and overseas, from a client and consultant perspective. These have been for a number of blue-chip clients, helping them to realise business opportunities and deliver renowned landmarks. This includes acting as a delivery partner responsible for Stace’s professional services on the accelerated delivery programme of the regeneration around Wembley stadium for the developer Quintain.

Edward has a vast range of experience in all of the major property and construction sectors, including retail, residential, commercial, and light industrial construction projects. He has project managed and acted as employer’s agent/contract administrator on a wide range of refurbishment and new build schemes.

Edward has expertise in all aspects of building surveying, with particular knowledge in defect investigation, and repair and refurbishment works. He leads our London Building Surveying division.

Michael joined Stace in March 2016 as an Associate Project Manager having spent 16 years at Rider Levett Bucknall. He is experienced in leading multidisciplinary consultant and constructor design teams, delivering projects from inception to completion. A good communicator and team player, Michael has extensive experience in stakeholder management and a proven track record in delivering successful projects.

Jenny joined Stace in 2012. Since joining she has been involved in projects within the retail, housing, commercial and leisure sectors.

Carmen Briggs

Associate

Carmen is an Associate Project Manager at Stace, with experience predominantly in the retail, office and commercial sectors. Qualified in Architectural Technology, she has extensive experience in major construction, shop-fitting projects and national roll-out programmes.

Mark Brooks

Mark joined Stace in 1999 as an Assistant Planning Supervisor and has worked in the health and safety area ever since, building up an extensive underpinning knowledge within the industry. As well as undertaking the varying duty holder’s roles in the many iterations of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), Mark has developed and now leads the Health and Safety Management services that Stace offers, providing assistance and guidance to clients within the construction industry along with clients in the corporate world.

Beginning as a building surveyor providing property-related services to local government, Matt later moved into project management and has managed projects on behalf of local government, schools, universities, central government and private sector clients.

Variety typifies Matt’s project resume as he has managed projects including mixed-use developments, office fit-outs, leisure centres, scientific facilities and a television studio.

Paul commenced work in 1976, gaining general work experience in both independent private quantity surveyors and local authority quantity surveying departments. Since joining Stace in 1988, he has gained considerable experience in a wide range of projects across a variety of industry sectors including office, industrial, sports and leisure, residential, education and retail, for both private and public sector clients.

Neil Butler

Neil recently joined Stace as Project Director in the London Project Management division. He has more than 30 years’ involvement in a wide variety of businesses and has a diversity of experience, from contractor to consultant, as well as on the client side of the industry.

John Carminati

Project Director

John has over 20 years’ experience in the industry including estate and telecommunications project management, where he managed the whole procurement process of acquiring the site to full legal ownership. In this role, he has employed his previous experience and knowledge to manage and run numerous complicated and challenging construction projects. He has invaluable experience in both client and contractor management dealing with a multitude of stakeholders. In addition, he has also delivered, Heritage, Education leisure, retail and fit out projects and has good experience of move management.

Peter has spent the majority of his career in high profile client facing project and programme management roles. He benefits from having worked with a variety of clients on key projects in differing sectors and as such has experience of leading conservation, renovation/refurbishment, fit-out and new-build works. Prior to moving into consulting, Peter worked on various commercial and retail construction management projects.

Peter has a wealth of knowledge and experience within the Heritage, Arts & Culture space, built on his own keen personal interest.

Ian is a Partner in the Project Management division. He is currently involved with a number of high-profile projects in a project management capacity, including the regeneration of Wembley with Quintain.

During his 17 years’ experience as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) within the construction industry, including over 10 years as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Steven has acquired an extensive understanding and knowledge of working with many different clients on a wide range of projects, procurement routes, and forms of contracts.

Nigel Cook

Nigel Cook

Partner

Nigel joined Stace in 1997 after university and became a Chartered Surveyor in 1999, having attained membership (MRICS) of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. In 2000, he moved to DTZ Debenham Tie Leung in London and worked on construction projects throughout London and mainland Europe. In 2003, he moved abroad to join Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. as a Senior Commercial Manager in the Asia Pacific region and worked on various engineering projects in transportation and infrastructure.

Nigel returned to the UK in mid-2011 and rejoined Stace as a Project Director, before being promoted to Partner in 2015. His strengths are in project management, development monitoring and commercial management.

Julian rejoined Stace in 2016, after time spent delivering major retail store projects, together with managing government and public sector projects. An experienced project manager with a passion for construction, Julian came initially from a design background before progressing to project management. He has 30 years’ experience in the industry.

Keith is a motivated and committed Senior Quantity Surveyor who has completed a BA (Hons) and postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying. He joined Stace in May 2012 after spending the previous four years at a smaller private consultancy.

Glyn Crawley

Glyn joined Stace as a trainee in 1979 and has been key in the development of the business into new areas of professional services. He became a Partner in 1996, and was involved from the infancy of the development of project management as a recognised separate profession within the property industry.

Glyn holds overall responsibility for the Project Management division, the London office and staff development within the Group. He is also involved in shaping the strategic direction of Stace.

Stuart joined Stace in 2016 and is a Chartered Architect and PMI-credentialled project management professional. He has extensive experience in the leisure and hotels, mixed-use and residential sectors.

John Curle

John has been with Stace since 2001, and worked as an apprentice receiving a degree in Quantity Surveying from Anglia Ruskin University in 2006. Shortly after graduating John advanced his career as a Project Manager.

James Darbyshire

James Darbyshire

Partner

James joined Stace in 1989 as a trainee and has progressed to Partner. During this time James has worked in most industry sectors and adds value with strategic advice as part of multi-disciplinary pre-contract teams.

James is an active member of Stace’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and supports social and sustainable initiatives in the built environment. He also helped establish Stace’s ‘Trusted Business Partner’ philosophy. James is a fellow for the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Joseph joined Stace in February 2017 after spending ten years with AECOM in Africa and previously in the United Kingdom, where he was involved in a range of projects in the Commercial, Hotel, Leisure and Residential sectors.

Jacques de Villers

With over nine years of experience as a consultant in construction cost management, Jacques has experience in a diverse array of services across a wide spectrum of the construction industry.

Most notably Jacques has been extensively involved in the successful delivery of projects in all shapes and sizes in the higher education, residential, mixed-use development and retail sectors.

David Duffield

David is a Project Director with specific responsibility for Public Sector and Regeneration projects in the Epping office. He is a Project Manager with a Chartered Civil Engineering background and has extensive experience of new build and refurbishment projects on a variety of commercial, retail, industrial, office and residential schemes.

Marc Eagles

Marc has broad experience in the Property Industry and all aspects of Building Surveying, with particular knowledge in defect investigation, repair and maintenance works including refurbishment and new build projects. Marc is regularly involved in Contract Administration and Employer’s agent roles across all property sectors; undertaking and managing planned maintenance inspections, building surveys, schedules of condition, asbestos-related projects and refurbishment and reactive works programmes for a number of key clients.

Marc has joint responsibility for the management of the Building Surveying Division.

Glenn Edwards

Upon Graduating from Anglia Ruskin University in June 2011, Glenn worked for a project management consultancy focusing mainly on highway maintenance schemes and Civil Engineering projects until joining Stace in August 2012. Glenn went on to receive his RICS accreditation in November 2017.

Jennifer joined Stace in October 2016 and has over seven years’ experience in the construction industry which includes four years working client side. Jennifer has delivery experience in regeneration and new build residential projects, with commissions from both the private and public sector clients.

Jan Engdorf

Jan brings to Stace highly valued and varied experience across sectors such as mixed-use and regeneration, residential, leisure, sport, commercial and healthcare. Jan was educated in Denmark, Scotland and England, and is a PRINCE 2 Practitioner as well as a registered CDM Advisor. He started his career at a House builder working on-site and has since moved across to consulting, where he has gained experience of collaborative working within multi-stakeholder and partnership environments. John has also gained extensive experience of public sector procurement.

Jacob Fitch

Jacob started his career in Property as an Architectural Designer, working on the feasibility, design development, technical design and delivery of large scale residential schemes, before progressing to specialise in Project Management. Jacob joined Stace in January 2015 as a Project Manager and has worked as a key member of the team on a number of developer led projects in both the mixed-use residential and prime student accommodation sectors.

Katharine Flank

Katharine is a Chartered Surveyor and PRINCE 2 practitioner with 18 years’ experience. Katharine has worked across multiple services as a Quantity Surveyor, Employer’s Agent and Project Monitor, with an impressive track record working for a wide range of clients in various sectors of the construction industry. She has comprehensive Pre and Post Contract Quantity Surveying and Employer’s Agent experience, primarily in the residential sector working with private developers, registered providers, and diplomatic estates.

Gary Fletcher

Gary joined Stace in 1977 and became a Partner of the business in 1990. He has numerous experiences in all aspects of Quantity Surveying, in particular, office developments including the 120,000 square foot development at Capability Green, Luton and numerous schemes in Central London.

Gary holds the responsibility in the Practice for the Cost Management Division and he has technical responsibility in the Practice for recommendation to clients on Cost Planning, as well as direction, supervision and coordination of surveying and related disciplines.

Martin Ford

Martin joined Stace in 1987 as a school leaver and studied part-time before graduating in 1993 and qualifying as a chartered surveyor in 1998. During his time at Stace he has acted on a wide variety of projects across many sectors and for various different types of client. His experience ranges from construction management and fast track projects to nationwide development programmes and roll-outs for major retail clients and bespoke projects for one-off clients.

Richard joined Stace in 1997 as an Assistant Planning Supervisor; quickly progressing to Associate CDM Coordinator responsible for all aspects of the CDMC under the 2007 Regulations With the introduction of the new CDM Regulations in 2015 Richard continues to provide CDM and H&S advice to clients, designers and contractors alike. Richard was made Divisional Director in 2016.

Brian has obtained a Degree in Real Estate Management and a Master’s in Construction Project Management. The combination of these qualifcation has given Brian a wide base knowledge of the construction industry. After gaining experience at another project management consultancy, Brian joined Stace to further widen his experience and has been involved on schemes with Jaguar Land Rover and LaSalle Investment. Brian has developed his skills in the development of the lifecycle management and Project Management of several projects. He is a highly motivated construction professional with six years’ experience working in a wide range of sectors.

Herb joined Stace in 1985 following experience gained in Local Authority Civil Engineering, Architecture and Quantity Surveying departments. At Stace, Herb has been involved in all aspects of pre and post contract quantity surveying on a wide variety of projects across several sectors including residential, retail, office, sport, industrial.

Tony begun his career quantity surveying in 2006 and joined Stace in March 2011 after spending his previous time at smaller private consultancies. Tony achieved MRICS status in December 2014 and has recently been promoted within the business to Senior Associate.

Lee is a highly motivated and experienced construction professional, with nearly 25 years construction experience across a wide range of sectors. He has successfully delivered several construction projects within the commercial, hotel, residential, health and education sectors for both public, private clients and developers.

Stuart is a graduate of The University of Manchester with 19 years’ post-graduate experience gained from working on site in various roles in both public and private sector projects.

He has an excellent depth in both client and contractor project management having worked on a number of high profile projects from conception to completion. He brings project management, construction management and commercial management experience with a particular emphasis on working in the heritage and arts sector.

Dave is an Associate at Stace having previously worked for consultants and developers in both the UK and US. He has worked in numerous sectors from Ecclesiastical to Residential. He is an MRICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor and actively involved with the RICS, as an AssocRICS Assessor.

Malcolm Howting

Malcolm Howting

Partner

Malcolm is a Partner with a Chartered Building Surveying background. He has over 20 years of Development Monitoring and Project Management experience, working with owner-occupiers, developers, retailers, not-for-profit organisations and local authorities. Malcolm has extensive experience creating and managing teams on a variety of new build complex schemes, pre-let development and purchase agreements and fitting out assignments.

His responsibilities as a Partner include carrying out project management/development work within the company and monitoring major development schemes on behalf of funding institutions and private clients.

Simon Hugill

Simon is a Partner in the London Project Management division. Until very recently, Simon has acted as Meyer Homes outsourced Technical Director with responsibility for running all schemes across their portfolio including Bath Press. This represents a combined construction value of circa £1.5 Billion and over 4000 homes.

Additionally, Simon acts as a senior construction advisor to Transport for London (TFL) in terms of their Property Partnership Panel.

A Project Manager with a Chartered Quantity Surveying background, Mike is responsible for the management of the Project Management Team in the Epping office.

Mike has extensive experience of new build and refurbishment projects for both public and private sector clients on a variety of commercial, retail, industrial and residential schemes.

David has over 40 years experience in the industry, beginning work in 1977 in a private professional practice in Edinburgh. David joined Stace in 1985 and leads the Cost Management Division in our London office.

David has gained wide experience in all aspects of quantity surveying and has specialised in residential developments, leisure, health & fitness, new commercial developments, refurbishment and fitting out of commercial developments. David has responsibilities within Stace for developing and maintaining the QA Management Systems.

Ian qualified as a Structural Engineer before entering project management.

Jonathan joined Stace in 1996 as a Contract Administrator and Design Co-ordinator. He was promoted to Associate in Stace Project Management in May 1999 and Senior Associate in 2002.

Andrew joined Stace in January 2011 as a Graduate Building Surveyor, after previously working for Lambert Smith Hampton and Aedas Building Consultancy. Andrew has over 13 years’ experience working in the property and construction industry.

Peter joined Stace in 1997 and is a Project Director in the Epping office. A Project Manager with a Quantity Surveying background, Peter has 21 years’ experience in a wide range of sectors.

Nick has 12 years of experience in construction with extensive Project Management experience. He has a wide range of knowledge in retail, commercial and large industrial environments, especially with regards to new build, leisure, retail operations and distribution. Nick is a construction professional with a specialist background in large and complex projects.

Adrian Murray graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Adiran began his career in New Zealand before immigrating to the United Kingdom and joining Stace in 2005 as a Project Manager.

James joined Stace as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in 2016. James graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2013 and attained membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2016.

John Noble

John leads the finance and business operations for Stace. His responsibilities include all matters concerning the firm’s finance, administration and personnel, in particular, ensuring strong, financial controls are in place and adhered to.

Claire is an Associate with over 15 years of project management and design experience in the UK and South African construction industry. Claire has worked with numerous clients predominantly in the retail and residential sectors.

Steve has a vast and varied portfolio of previous experiences, these range from high quality retail fit outs, large residential estate regeneration projects, offices and industrial units, to an award winning educational campus and demolition and rebuild of a flagship police headquarters.

Kim Payne

Kim has over twelve years’ experience in the Banking Due Diligence sector and has a wide range of knowledge through monitoring various projects varying in value from £0.5 million to £126 million including residential, office, commercial, hotels, student accommodation, schools and colleges, health care facilities (care homes, dentist, medical centre) extensive refurbishment, (listed buildings), permitted developments. These have utilised differing forms of Contracts including JCT forms and bespoke agreements.

Alec has a wide range of previous experiences acting in project management, construction management, quantity surveying and planning supervision roles. He has extensive experience on a wide range of projects including retail, industrial, education, rail infrastructure projects, new build, alterations, fit outs and extensions for both small and very large projects. He has managed schemes from inception to completion including design and cost control.

Simon is a Construction Consultant with 9 years’ experience working for multi-disciplinary consultancies. He has also spent time working client side and within the financial services industry focusing on the construction sector in both the UK and USA.

Simon is experienced in managing construction projects and programmes of work for building owners, developers, and commercial clients whilst maintaining a strong focus on cost control.

Kevin is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 45 years’ experience in the construction industry and 16 years bank monitoring experience. Kevin’s experience comes from a wide and varied background covering both the contracting and professional sides of the construction industry with projects ranging from £300,000 to £250 million.

James graduated from the University of Greenwich in 2002 with a degree in Building Surveying. Shortly after graduating, James made the decision to progress his career as a Quantity Surveyor.

A Project Director with 40 years’ experience in the industry, Gordon has worked for Higgins Construction, Barratt Eastern Countries and Rialto Homes. During his career, he has held numerous construction roles, working as Site Engineer, Site Manager, Construction Manager and Construction Director.

Stuart has a broad spread of experience on projects ranging from £900 million civil engineering projects in the Middle East to residential and industrial projects in the UK. He has extensive local authority, educational, sports and leisure experience. This includes sitting on the Rugby Football Union South Stand Steering Group for the £145 million shell and core and fit out works.

Stuart has been with Stace since 1995, and became a Partner of the business in 2003.

Fraser joined Stace in June 2014 as Graduate Project Manager from Northumbria University, having previously worked for The Royal Household during a placement year as Intern Building Surveyor responsible for projects in the Royal Mews at Windsor Castle.

Since graduating in 1997, Gareth has rapidly progressed within Stace, achieving Chartered Surveyor status in 1999, obtaining Capital and Counties ‘Best Overall Performance’ in his Post Graduate studies at The College of Estate Management in 2005 and becoming a Partner of the business in 2006.

In more recent years, Gareth has established our Monitoring Surveying and Due Diligence division as a serious player, establishing Stace as Panel Consultants for Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays and HSBC. Until recently, Gareth was an external examiner at The Bartlett School, University College London for the BSc Project Management for Construction. Gareth is also an active member of the British Council of Offices.

Stuart joined Stace in 1991 as a trainee Quantity Surveyor. He completed five years part-time study at Greenwich University attaining a First Class honours degree in Quantity Surveying. In 1999 Stuart qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and become a Partner at Stace in 2008.

Stuart has extensive experience and expertise on a varied selection of projects in the mixed-use, office & commercial, retail, residential, health and sports and leisure sectors. Stuart has a particular expertise in construction contracts and dispute resolution.

John began his career as a General Practice Surveyor in 1989. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Building Surveying in 1996, before qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2002. Prior to joining Stace John worked for several private surveying practices, a local authority and a large valuation and surveying Plc.

Glyn joined Stace in 1998 with 15 years prior experience in the construction industry on a varied selection of projects and across a wide range of industry sectors. In the past 10 years, he has focused on retail developments, in particular mixed-use retail procurement.

Glyn is experienced in a wide range of pre- and post-contract quantity surveying services for a variety of clients. He graduated with a degree in 1984 and attained full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1987.

Mark has significant knowledge and experience in defect investigation, repair and maintenance works and has run yearly stock condition survey schemes, as well as repair and redecoration, works programmes for both public and private sector clients.

Matthew joined Stace as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor in 1981 and graduated from Polytechnic of the South Bank in 1987 with a degree obtained on a day release basis. He attained membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1993 and became a Partner at Stace in 2003.

Matthew has an extensive breadth of Cost Management experience across a range of sectors, including retail, education, sport, leisure, health, custodial, residential and commercial office projects. Matthew has a particular expertise in cost benchmarking, building contract procurement options and in the resolution of building contract disputes.

Simon holds the position of Associate having worked as a Quantity Surveyor for 28 years, 14 years of which have been in a senior position. Simon obtained his degree in quantity surveying in 1995 and gained membership to the RICS in 1997.
