Works commence at Watford Business Park

Works have commenced at Watford Business Park to deliver workspaces fit for the future. Many pre-existing buildings within the site were not geared to the current needs of businesses prompting our client, Watford Borough Council, to transform the 30-hectare major employment area. The aim is to create modern, flexible business units for SMEs within a range of sectors including film, TV, life sciences and manufacturing.

The project includes the demolition of existing buildings, remediation of the site and construction of c.65,000 sq ft of commercial premises across 14 units. A new access route into the site will be created alongside new parking and landscaping. The business park has over 100 businesses employing more than 1,000 people and works will increase the employment capacity, with the potential to create an additional 180 jobs in the town.

The £20million major redevelopment project has been made possible by the council and Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) providing £5 million of funding via the Local Growth Fund. It will help regenerate this key employment hub in the town and ‘set the tone’ for companies looking to move into the area.

Works are expected to complete by autumn 2023 on the site located on Greenhill Crescent, Caxton Way and Faraday Close.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “Supporting our local businesses and creating the right environment for them to flourish is absolutely vital and a top priority for me. Our local businesses are the lifeblood of our town, creating jobs and prosperity and keeping the town vibrant and successful.”

Adam Wood, Enterprise Zone Manager at Hertfordshire LEP, said: “The regeneration of Watford Business Park will expand the area’s employment capacity and capitalise on the town’s excellent transport links, skilled workforce, and strong business base. We are delighted to support this scheme, which complements our wider programme of investment in Watford, including the regeneration of Clarendon Road, Trade City, Riverwell and Watford Junction station.”
