Japanese Galleries Opens At The British Museum

Partner, James Darbyshire, Associate, Keith Cramphorn and Alex Gilbert recently attended the reopening ceremony of the Mitsubishi Corporation Japanese Galleries at The British Museum.

Stace were appointed in September 2016 to deliver Cost Management services for The British Museum for The Japanese Galleries, with the project requiring a full refurbishment. Stace were actively involved from conception through to completion, which included a bespoke lighting scheme, new visuals displays and showcases.

The Japanese Galleries explores how continuity and change have shaped Japan’s past and present, showcasing work from 5000 BC to the present day. The British Museum attracts around 6.5 million visits a year, with The Japanese Galleries being one of the most popular. The ceremony was a fantastic evening, allowing the high-profile guests – which included Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester and Hartwig Fischer, Director of The British Museum – the first opportunity to look around the impressive galleries.

What was one of our first commissions, Stace has since gone on to deliver the Asia & South East Galleries, a number of the Museum’s perimeter properties as well as providing advisory services and early cost advice to the Board of Trustees.
