With 18 years of industry experience, Matthew began his career as an apprentice at Stace in 2007.

Now a Quantity Surveyor at Associate level, he has delivered projects across a wide range of sectors including Commercial, Education, Residential, Industrial, and Healthcare. His client portfolio includes the London Borough of Enfield, Royal Mail, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, and Tesco.

A keen darts player, Matthew can often be found at the oche. Whether it’s a casual match with friends or a local league competition, he enjoys the game as a way to unwind and keep his competitive edge sharp.

Hannah has worked in the construction industry for over 10 years, beginning her career through a Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship. While studying, she achieved BTEC, HNC, and HND qualifications in Construction & the Built Environment, and later graduated with a BSc in Quantity Surveying in May 2021.

Later that year, she joined Stace and has since worked across a variety of sectors with clients including the National Trust, Royal Mail, Watford Council, London Borough of Enfield, and Havering London Borough Council.

Having started out as an apprentice herself, Hannah is deeply passionate about mentoring apprentices and supporting younger team members. She understands how vital that encouragement is to professional development and is committed to helping others grow within the business.

When she’s not immersed in project work, Hannah’s world revolves around her cockerpoo, Mabel. She enjoys long walks, exploring new destinations, and spending quality time with her family. She’s also a talented baker who loves experimenting with new recipes and creative designs.

Paul Burns

Divisional Director
Paul began his career in the construction industry in 1976, gaining experience in both independent private Chartered Quantity Surveying practices and Local Authority Quantity Surveying departments. He achieved his RICS Chartership in 1986 and joined Stace in 1988.
 
Based in our Cambridge office, Paul serves as Divisional Director, with direct responsibility for a wide range of accounts.
 
Over the years, he has worked with clients including Turnstone Estates Limited, St John's College, M&G Real Estate, Airbus, and Brydell Partners. His expertise spans the commercial, life sciences, residential, leisure, and industrial sectors.

Aaron Perry

Senior Building Safety Consultant

After several rewarding years as a Project Architect at Kennedy Woods Architecture, Aaron joined Stace as a Senior Building Safety Consultant in September 2025.

He has predominantly worked in the education and commercial sectors, with a particular focus on the retention and adaptive reuse of existing building stock, including those with historical listings. His broad range of experience across numerous construction disciplines now supports his work in delivering meaningful impact under the Building Safety Act.

Aaron is an ARB Registered Architect and a visiting critic at the University of Westminster, where he is invited regularly to review design studio submissions and final thesis projects from third-year undergraduate students.

He is passionate about creating positive change through built interventions, navigating complex parameters, and drawing on his past experience as a strong foundation.

When he's not focused on building safety, you’ll often find Aaron tackling endurance swims like the Thames Marathon, stretching from Henley-on-Thames to Marlow... because why drive when you can swim?

Harrison joined Stace in 2021 straight from school as a degree apprentice. He began his studies at Anglia Ruskin University in 2022 and is on track to complete his degree in December 2025. Following graduation, he plans to begin his journey toward chartership.

He enjoys socialising and building his network within the industry, always keen to connect and learn from others.

A dedicated Millwall supporter, weekends are usually reserved for football—you’ll find Harrison down at The Den every Saturday.

Malcom Howting

Malcom Howting

Partner

A Partner at Stace since 2016, Malcolm discovered his enjoyment for collaborating and leading teams, delivering projects together, after completing his training as a Building Surveyor and becoming chartered.

Retraining as a Project Manager in the late 90s, Malcolm worked for GVA Grimley before moving to Millbridge as a Director, and ultimately joining Stace in 2012. 

Today, he manages project management teams and the delivery of services across the country, leading the Student Accommodation sector and heading up the Environmental focus group, ensuring the business is up to speed on the latest thinking in Sustainability, and reducing our carbon footprint. 

Outside of work, Malcolm is a trustee of the Phoenix Trust in Cambridge, which supports adults with learning difficulties, providing a meaningful place to work and producing amazing carpentry and building products. 

He’s also a snowboarding fan and loves being in the mountains.

Jenny Braid

Project Director

Jenny's fascination for the built environment led her to Portsmouth University to study Civil Engineering. The opening ceremony for London's 2012 Olympics saw her arrival at Stace as Graduate Project Manager. 

Having earned her RICS chartership in 2018, Jenny was promoted to Project Director in 2021, with several incredible projects under her belt with clients such as Bouygyes, BOXPARK, Qualis, Turnstone, and London Borough of Enfield. 

Today, Jenny manages projects, driving them from inception to completion as key client and team contact and also in an Employers Agent capacity, utilising her expertise in programming, local authority procurement, and stakeholder management.

As Stace's ED&I Steering Group lead, she's passionate about developing the next generation to create a diverse, balanced, and engaged team, reflective of this dynamic and ever-changing industry. 

Outside work, Jenny is passionate about sports, particularly women's football, Escape Rooms, Eurovision, travel, and spending time with friends and family. As a teenager, she represented Essex under-18s in golf, achieving a hole-in-one when she was 11 - something she hopes to repeat any day now.

Project Manager

Sev works across Student Accommodation, Leisure, Hotel, and Residential sectors, working with clients such as Bouygues Development, Turnstone Estates, and Iconic Properties.

Having graduated from University College London with a BSc in Construction Management in 2021, Sev worked for a contractor before joining Stace in 2023. 

As Project Manager, Sev’s role encompasses risk management, time management, problem solving, stakeholder communication, quality control, and budget management. She also acts as pre- and post-contract Employer's Agent.

Ever a friendly face, Sev often attends networking events through Real Estate Balance or the NLA, to meet peers across the industry and reconnect with clients.

Outside of work, she can either be found exploring new countries and cultures or planning her explorations whilst keeping fit through swimming or Pilates.

Louis Byers

Louis has spent over ten years in the construction industry, all with Stace, having started as a grad.

During that time, he’s worked with some fantastic clients like British Land, Silverstone Circuits, and The Portman Estate. He loves seeing a project come together and knowing he’s played a part in making it happen-especially when there are tricky problems to solve along the way.

When he’s not at work, you’ll probably find Louis out running or training for his next triathlon. He’s a keen competitor and recently finished Ironman Barcelona in an impressive 10 hours and 50 minutes.

Project Director

Maria Law is a Project Director with over 16 years of leadership experience in the construction industry, delivering complex projects across the public health, life sciences, heritage and education sectors. She began her career as a Chartered Technical Architect and holds the NEC4 ECC Project Manager Accreditation. Maria has a proven track record of successfully managing complex refurbishment projects in live environments, overseeing the full project lifecycle from inception to completion.

Clients value Maria’s collaborative approach, and deep understanding of programme and risk management. She brings a strong track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams, navigating regulatory requirements, and ensuring stakeholder alignment throughout delivery.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys downhill mountain biking, snowboarding, motorsports, and playing the piano – and she appreciates a good whisky.

Jonathan has been in the industry for over 40 years, 28 of them with Stace.

Having worked in commercial architecture practices as an Architect, Jonathan joined Stace and moved into Project Management, where he now works with clients including BDO, Quintain, Jaguar Land Rover, Tottenham Hotspur, and The Portman Estate.

Throughout his career, he has worked on a wide variety of interesting projects, some very specialised and unusual, all of which have embedded his passion for creating a sustainable future for the generations to come. 

Jonathan is involved in Stace’s Graduate Development Scheme, supporting younger members of the team and sharing his knowledge and expertise.

Outside of work, he enjoys working with wood – everything from processing fallen trees into firewood to building indoor and outdoor projects at home.

Joining Stace in 2023, having completed a degree in International Business Management at MMU, Henry has already worked on a plethora of projects, including Central London mixed-use and office construction for Kajima and Tellon Capital, hospital construction for the NHS, and estate rationalisation for BT.

Henry is soon to complete a Master's in Construction Management at UCEM, fuelling his passion about learning through exposure to new experiences. 

In his day-to-day, Henry works directly with a number of clients, drafting Employer’s Agent documents, organising meetings, advising clients on building contracts, and leaning on his communication skills to keep projects on track. 

At the weekend, Henry spends (too much) time perusing the bargain box at his local record shop.

George came to Stace in 2022 during his placement year whilst studying at UCL's Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. He returned in 2024, after completing his degree and graduating with first-class honours.

He currently manages a key enabling works project that feeds into the wider British Museum Energy Centre Programme, which Stace has been appointed to deliver.

George is passionate about working in heritage settings, particularly within live buildings and busy tourist attractions. He takes pride in mitigating disruption to the visitor experience wherever possible.

Outside of work, George enjoys playing and watching sports, especially football and tennis and spending time with family and friends. A lover of live music, he can often be found attending gigs on the weekend.

After graduating from Wolverhampton University, Robert spent six years at Faithful & Gould, and a year at Robert Lombardelli Partnership, before joining Stace in 2004.

Having worked at Stace for over 20 years, his experience includes the preparation of estimates, cost plans, tender documentation, valuations, contract administration, on-site measurement, and final account agreement.

Robert has an incredibly dry sense of humour and, when not working, enjoys having a laugh with friends. He occasionally likes to garden and has recently been spending a lot of time in Scotland working on a scheme.

Matt Whitehead

Matthew Whitehead is one of the most respected figures at Stace, known not only for his deep technical expertise but also for the trust and admiration he’s earned across the industry. Having joined the firm straight out of university in 1987 as a trainee quantity surveyor, Matthew has built his entire career at Stace — a testament to his loyalty, leadership, and lasting impact.

Achieving MRICS Chartered Surveyor status in 1993, Matthew quickly became a go-to advisor for clients and colleagues alike. His promotion to Partner in 2008 was a natural progression, and today he plays a pivotal role on the Management Board, helping to steer the strategic direction of the business on behalf of the equity partners.

Over the years, Matthew has led major commissions for high-profile clients including TT Group, Merlin Attractions, Places for People, McLaren Property, and The Portman Estate. His reputation for delivering with precision, integrity, and insight has made him a trusted name in the field.

Widely regarded for his collaborative style and mentorship, Matthew is valued not just for what he knows — but for how generously he shares it. He takes genuine pride in the technical nature of the services Stace provides and is driven by the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to clients and their organisations.

Outside of work, Matthew is a passionate sports enthusiast — even if supporting Tottenham Hotspur requires a bit of resilience. He’s also a keen cyclist, hiker, and swimmer, always up for a challenge and committed to staying active.

Richard Roberts

Richard Roberts

Senior CDM / Health & Safety Consultant

Richard has worked in the construction industry for 47 years and is passionate about helping the next generation achieve their full potential. 

Having attended Civil Engineering College, Richard completed a Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship. Following a move to London, he swiftly moved up the management ladder, working on high-profile projects, including at Canary Wharf, undertaking refurbishment projects at Buckingham Palace, and, following a transition into Health & Safety in 2003, at the Olympic Park during the 2012 Olympic Games. 

Joining Stace in 2015, he is now responsible for ensuring the Pre-Construction Phase of projects is managed correctly, as Principal Designer. He works with contractors to ensure projects are completed safely, carrying out safety inspections and providing clients with the necessary Health & Safety paperwork on completion. 

Richard is also a fully qualified Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies, providing services at weddings and boxing matches.

Kirsty Wilson

Kirsty initially joined Stace in 2023 as maternity leave cover but was subsequently offered a permanent role.
 
With eight years of experience in the recruitment industry, including four years in internal recruitment and HR, already under her belt, Kirsty is working towards her CIPD Level 5 to further enhance her expertise.
 
In her day-to-day role she is responsible for supporting the recruitment process, onboarding new team members, helping coordinate learning and development opportunities for all colleagues, and HR Administration. She also supports with planning company events.
In her downtime she loves spending time with her niece, and selling on Vinted!
