After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, John chose to specialise in tax and went on to become a Chartered Tax Advisor. However, he was soon persuaded by Len Stace (the founder of the business), and his partners to make the leap into the industry, leaving behind his early tax career and private practice. That decision marked the beginning of a journey that has now spanned over 35 years in the corporate world.
John takes pride in having introduced the first computers to the accounts department at Stace, and has enjoyed watching technology evolve and reshape the business over the years. While his role has typically remained on the edge of direct client advisory services, one notable exception was his involvement with bomb-damaged buildings at South Quay on behalf of Allied Domecq, where he provided accounting support.
As a member of the Management Board at Stace, John is responsible for accounting, finance, and business support functions.
A mantra he lives by is: expect the unexpected and plan for every eventuality, wherever possible. Away from the numbers, John is passionate about his family and enjoys most sports – whether participating or watching.
