Shaping the Future of Construction Through Apprenticeships

As we mark National Apprenticeship Week, taking place from 9–15 February 2026, we join organisations across the country in celebrating the positive impact apprentices make within businesses and local communities.

Apprenticeships provide a great pathway to develop practical work skills, gain valuable on-site experience, and build industry knowledge. With the construction industry continuing to face a widely recognised skills gap, apprenticeships offer the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience alongside seasoned professionals while working towards qualifications.

At Stace, our people are our greatest asset. We are committed to fostering continuous learning and development, and we take pride in supporting apprentices as they grow and gain new skills. Stace has championed apprenticeships for decades, and many of our Partners and senior team members began their careers with us as apprentices.

Why did you choose this company for your apprenticeship?

“I joined Stace because I wanted to be part of a company that fosters a strong sense of community, where apprentices are trusted with real responsibility rather than observing from the sidelines. The variety of projects, combined with hands-on support from the Partners and my colleagues, has enabled me to grow organically and expand my knowledge – something I am truly grateful for.”

Harrison Lambert, Assistant Quantity Surveyor

What inspired you to choose an apprenticeship in property and construction?

“I wanted to progress in the industry quickly, and the apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain a degree and become chartered while working at the same time. Combining on‑the‑job training with study has been important for understanding the ‘why’ behind decision‑making, and it has given me more confidence in my day‑to‑day work.”

Rebecca Carter, Assistant Project Manager

What new skills have you learnt since beginning your apprenticeship?

“Studying a master’s in construction management alongside working has allowed me to apply what I learn directly to live projects, helping to embed new knowledge in practice. This structured route has strengthened my prioritisation, time‑management, and project management skills. With the APC chartership exam as my end‑point assessment, these skills are preparing me for my next milestone: becoming a chartered RICS project manager.”

Annabel Wingfield, Assistant Project Manager

How do you balance learning and working on real projects?

“Balancing learning with real project work can be challenging, and joining the apprenticeship scheme means accepting that much of your own time will go into studying and completing assignments. However, working alongside a team of experienced surveyors makes a huge difference, offering real-life examples and guidance from their time at college and university – support you wouldn’t get through a more traditional educational route.”

Zoe Greenway, Trainee Building Surveyor

What do you think makes the property and construction industry exciting right now?

“Innovation, sustainability, and technology are driving a huge transformation across the built environment and reshaping buildings in ways we haven’t seen before. It’s rewarding to play a part in reducing emissions and creating places that are sustainably designed, environmentally efficient, and built to benefit future generations.”

Henry Way, Project Manager

Why do you think apprenticeships are important for the growth and success of the construction and property sector?

“Apprenticeships are essential for developing future building surveyors, bridging academic study with real‑world experience. They enable trainees to work on live projects, deliver professional services, and apply university learning in practice. These programmes provide a structured pathway that supports surveyors in progressing their skills and ultimately achieving RICS accreditation.”

Freddie Sperrin, Trainee Building Surveyor
