Chineham District Centre

The development comprises the complex remodelling and extension of an existing District Centre to provide additional mixed-use facilities including; retail units, leisure facilities, a hotel and a health-care facility. The scheme also creates improved transport links, additional parking spaces and extensive landscaping and public realm improvement works.
The project brief requires the team to open up and re-organise the site to improve the customer experience, providing better accessibility and greater use of facilities. The client also tasked the team to create improved pedestrian links to the nearby ancient woodland, and to further enhance the public realm by creating a new central ‘heart space’.
Continuity between the existing and proposed units has been achieved by a comprehensive approach to landscaping, public realm improvements and façade treatments across the site.
A key project challenge is to preserve the existing tenant operations on site including their servicing and parking requirements during the construction period. Stace led the consultant team to devise a development phasing strategy which allows the existing tenants to operate without disruption, whilst also delivering the maximum amount of new space as early as possible.
