Background

The project is the first of a multi-phase programme to rejuvenate Scarborough’s North Bay. The development has seen the refurbishment of the original beach huts and the construction of a number of new beach huts along the bay also a design and construction of a new Beach Management Centre. The new Beach Management Centre was designed with the environmental impact of the new centre as a key consideration. Features included: Excess insulation to retain more of the heat in the building for a longer period of time, rainwater storage tanks; the rainwater from the roof is harvested, stored in a large tank and used to flush the toilets in the centre, solar heated water, background heating provided by an air source heat pump and underfloor heating, one of the most environmentally friendly forms of space heating available.
