City of Westminster College Student Awards

We were proud to continue our support of the City of Westminster College’s Student Awards which took place on 28 June 2018.

Martin Ford attended the ceremony hosted at the Sarah Siddons Theatre at their Paddington Green Campus. Martin was delighted to have the opportunity to present three awards during the evening to winners – Harry Silver, Lily Da Silva, and Nooshin Asgari.

Harry joined the college in September 2016. Whilst studying, he faced a variety of obstacles but managed to work his way through them with determination. As well as being a committed student, Harry plays a big part in the college community, helping out at a range of events and being an active and supportive member of the college’s LGBT+ group. This September, Harry will be studying Chemistry at Leeds University and after he graduates, he plans to pursue a career in the drug development or environmental industries.

Lily has made outstanding progress during her time at CWC, progressing through their courses and this year beginning, Learning for Work. Lily’s greatest achievement has been in developing her employability skills, working in college mini-enterprise projects and doing voluntary work in a TRAID charity shop and at Marylebone FoodCycle. This has given her the confidence and experience to successfully apply for a college mini-job, and she’ll now be working part-time as a timetable distributor.

Nooshin is a geneticist by profession and worked as a genetic counsellor before coming to the UK from Iran. She has a BSc in Microbiology and an MSc in Genetic Science. She signed up for the ESOL, Business and IT course this year as she had applied to undertake a PhD at Kings College London and in order to pursue this, she needed a good command of English. Nooshin’s tutor Esther says, ‘Nooshin is unquestionably an exceptional student and I wish her all the best in her future.

Martin commented after the evening:

“It was an inspiring evening and was a testament to the excellent students, staff, and facilities which combine to make this such a successful college. Congratulations to all the students on receiving their very well deserved awards.”
