The City of Westminster College announce contractor for 60 million Paddington Green site

01 December 2007

Situated in the heart of Westminster, the inspirational new campus at Paddington Green is one step closer, following the Colleges announcement of Verry Construction as preferred contractor.

Stace Quantity Surveying tendered the works on behalf of the College using a two stage JCT Design and Build contract. A number of pre-bid, mid-bid and post-bid workshops for the first stage of the two stage tender process were organised to ensure that contractors clearly understood the requirements of the College, the design principles and the programme.

With the benefit of Stace’s transparent and well managed process, this high profile project for a state of the art education and training facility, on a prominent Central London site, went on to receive four excellent tender proposals, in a market which many find overheated.

Stace Partner James Darbyshire commented:
“Some clients feel lucky with one or two competitive tenders in the current market so all credit to the team and the four contractors who put considerable effort into the process.”

As the project enters its final phase of tender, and with Stace’s continued involvement, the College hope to agree the contract sum, conclude the LSC funding and start the demolition of the existing 1960s building.

In many respects this is the most exciting time for the project, Stace, along with the project team; Architects, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Engineers, Buro Happold and Knight Frank Project Management remain confident that this exemplar project will continue to meet all of its time and cost targets.
