Topping Out Ceremony at Willesden Green Cultural Centre

13 February 2015

On Thursday 12th February Cost Management Partner Stuart Syddell and Associate Alistair Wardle attended the topping out ceremony at the Library, Willesden Green. A topping out ceremony marks a significant milestone during a project’s life cycle.  Yesterday’s ceremony was to celebrate the completion of the highest point of construction in the project.

The scheme involves the demolition of the existing library and construction of a new 4,300m² Cultural Centre on the site. A small part of the existing library (built in 1894) is being retained and is integrated into the new building via a glazed link way.

The building will provide a focal point for the community, and includes Library space, a Customer Contact Centre for the provision of social services, a museum, archive facility, function space for arts and cultural performances, a café and office space for staff and the social services teams.

The remaining area of the site is being developed simultaneously to provide 95 residential units in four separate blocks. Both the Cultural Centre and residential blocks are being constructed by Galliford Try as part of a Development Agreement between the London Borough of Brent and Linden Homes.

The project is being handed over in stages, with the new Cultural Centre set to open later in 2015.
