Six points clear of the leaderboard, Michael Caine continues to head the championship race, after this weekend's thrilling racing at Donington Park.
With Bridgman leading, round five of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, saw Tim Harvey (Red Line Racing) edge ahead of Michael Caine from pole position; ‘When I hooked second off the line, there was a big bang and I thought second gear had gone; that’s when Tim got me’ said Michael, however with no further gearbox incidents Caine chased Harvey hard and brought the gap down to just 1.5s at the final flag, where Michael took third place.
In tricky weather conditions and with the threat of rain, round six saw all but one car choosing to begin on slicks. After an early safety car period, the top four were incredibly close. From the opening flag Bridgman led, closely followed by Caine, but as more rain fell the track became incredibly slippery which made for a fantastic watch with all six cars increasing their speed as the track started to dry in the later laps. The critical moment came under breaking in the chicane in lap 12 when Phil Quaife (Jota Sport) pulled off an audacious passing move, only just making the corner. In front of a big crowd and live TV audience, Quaife initially took the first flag, Bridgman second, Caine third, however following an earlier penalisation for passing under a yellow flag Quaife dropped to third in the amended results, with Michael taking second.
So Michael’s Team Parker Racing team mate Tim Bridgman once again scored a double victory, taking first place in both rounds (five and six) of the PCC at Donington Park.
Michael continues to head the leader board, as per the current standings shown below:
